story of the monarch collection
Known as the Golden Village, Sonargaon, in rural Bangladesh, is home to one of the oldest and most uniquely pure artisan communities in the world. The unequaled, world famous Jamdani fabric is crafted entirely by hand using a method of tapestry weaving that traces its origins back to the 3rd century B.C. Each piece of this luxuriously fine cotton is hand woven on a wooden loom over the course of 100 days or more.
Historically intended for Mughal royalty, the art form of Jamdani weaving has been passed down through generations of artisans who use their intuition to combine ancient Persian geometric motifs into the fabric. This, coupled with the individualized nature of the weaving, means that every piece of fabric contains artistic diversity and rarity that truly makes it a one-of-a-kind work of art.
